Since ancient times, hospitality (“filoxenia”) has always been perceived as a deed of great nobility in Greece. According to ancient traditions, the host was supposed to receive the guest in his house with goodwill, including the reception and entertainment of visitors and strangers, as well. Greeks have always been firm believers of hospitality, viewing it as a ritualized guest-friendship relation. Strangers were thought to be under the protection of “Xenios Zeus” and were considered as sacred, honored and resected figures.
Xeniusnet is a collaborative environment inspired by the culture of Greek hospitality. It aims to support the right to education and integration of child refugees in the Greek society and educational system. Child refugees can submit any questions they might have concerning their lessons at school or their homework assignments. Greek student volunteers will answer and/or suggest appropriate educational material. The routing of questions is managed by Xeniusnet according to criteria such as skills, availability, rating of previous answers, etc. Xeniusnet also involves teacher volunteers who undertake the responsibility of providing guidance and moderating the communications between mentors and mentees, in terms of accuracy and propriety.
